Brochures and tickets are now available for Beverley's third Puppet Festival, taking place from July 4th-6th this year. 16 ticketed theatre shows and 23 free outdoor acts from 17 of Britain's leading puppet theatre companies will be invading Beverley from Friday July 4th to Sunday July 6th.
Beverley Arts Trust can truthfully say that this biennial event has something for everyone:
Classic tales
Classic tales such as Little Red Riding Hood, Billy Goats gruff & The Elves & the Shoemaker cater for the very young.
Evening shows for age 12+
Evening shows for adults (including senior citizens) and teenagers: The Canterbury Tales, Houdini's Suitcase and The Vertigo of Sheep.
Family Audiences
For family audiences ranging from age 3, 4 or 5 upwards there are many more shows.
Diverse possibilities of puppetry
From sophisticated shadow theatre in Alice & the White Rabbit, to table top theatre with cleverly crafted puppets in The Magnificent Flying Machine; from Kathputli (Indian string puppets) to the English tradition of the DaSilva Marionette Circus. This contrasts again to The Selfish Giant (which has replaced the published Suitcase Circus in the printed programme). Recycled materials become magical in Crik the Croc and The Tin Forest, and Journey of Turtle teaches us to follow our dreams...
Free outdoor shows
Free outdoor shows from Robin Hood to Dr.Slythe's mechanical circus, 2 styles of Punch & Judy and gorillas which will attract the attention of even the busiest passers by - back by popular demand - along with Side Show Buzz (the game show host on wheels - having survived a Dragons Den TV appearance), and intimate theatre experiences for one.
Free workshops
Free drop-in puppet-making workshops at the Beverley Friary
Festival parties
Festival parties from 6-8pm on Saturday and Sunday in the Friary marquee, where we will also (on Sunday) be able to witness Dangerous Dave, the miniature superhero who needs to fight his way out of a wet paper bag. (Before evening audiences continue at Memorial Hall).
Schools showcase and procession
The Festival will be launched on Friday July 4th with the Schools showcase at 1pm at The Beverley Memorial Hall with a procession, starting at 2pm approximately.
Venues are The Beverley Memorial Hall, Beverley Friary, The Leisure Centre and Beverley Minster School. Addresses and links to maps can be found on the Venues page.Tickets on sale now from Beverley Tourist Information Centre 01482 391672. See Ticket price and discount details.

The event has been made possible thanks to lottery funding through Arts Council England with further grants from East Riding of Yorkshire Council, Beverley Town Council and the Sir James Reckitt Charity.
Beverley Arts Trust planned, organised funding for, and ran the Beverley Puppet Festival 2006.
The pictures on our 2006 events page show the wide range of puppetry that could be seen at the 2006 Beverley Puppet Festival, including spectacular puppetry and gamelan music from West Java and street performances including the very realistic mountain gorillas and 8 foot tall Egyptian goddess Isis.
